NEWS: $319 Mega Million Winners... and the guy who passed.

Lottery officials will unveil on Thursday the seven state workers who won the Mega Millions jackpot worth $319 million. They work for the New York State Homes and Community Renewal information services division, a source told the Daily News. They haven't reported for work since winning Friday night, but they haven't resigned either, another source said.

The group usually consisted of an 8^th member who is said, “wasn’t feeling lucky.” "The word is that when they were going around the office asking who wanted in on the pool, one guy said no, that he wasn't feeling lucky," said Jill Cook... "They asked him twice. They said, 'Are you sure?' and he said yeah, he was going to pass this time. I feel horrible for him."

News: John Thompson's $14 Million Overturned

John Thompson: a BLACK-MAN, who was FALSELY convicted of robbery and murder in 1984 has finally been freed. (Even after it was proven that the state prosecutor, who sent him to jail withheld evidence which would have proved his innocence, Thompson was Not immediately released… -_-)

After being freed, he attempts to sue the New Orleans D.A. (which at the time was headed by The HARRY CONNICK; father of the famous N.O. performer) for wrong doing. He won a modest $14 million. BUT, this was appealed and taken to the Supreme Court where it was over-turned yesterday. Simply stating, “the misconduct in the case was the work of a single miscreant prosecutor,” and the case did not prove “deliberate indifference” on the part of Mr. Connick. Regardless of the prosecutor being an Employee of the State, this was a good enough reason to not give John Thompson any form of reparation for his 18 years innocently served in state jail, 14 of which were in isolation on death row.

The same way there are laws to protect doctors from being sued, there are laws to protect lawyers. Thompson’s lawyers went about suing them the wrong way. Resulting in an appeal sent to a conservative supreme court. Not a formula working in  John Thompson’s favor. But if the prosecutor cannot be held accountable here, than when? 

The justice system ruined this mans life, and is denying him life yet again. Taking him from his life at a young age, putting him through hell, and now allowing him to leave jail. This may seem like a relief at first glance, but when you are John Thompson, unemployed, no experience, no life, starting from nothing at this point is more than stressful. The life they have now allowed him to live is far more difficult than the one he has recently left.

A third of offenders, re-offend… whether it is ignorance or the stresses of life, prison has proven to be nothing relative to rehabilitation.

10.Deep 2011 Spring Collection

This Spring 2011 lookbook for 10.Deep shows a great array of items representing the American male. The camo t-shirts (camo is tough right now. i'm gonna do alot with it this summer. i see camo-prints going strong through the winter), sweatshirts, pants and the plaid button-downs. The stars & The stripes that express a rebel spirit blended with a military structure that sums up 10.Deep’s movement in 2011. Classic styling makes a lasting line. 10.Deep has been on the radar for years, but this is the first time I believe they’re the leader in street-wear for the past couple seasons. ㋡

"Bonjour, macaron!" - Macarons Are The New Cupcakes

On Valentine’s day weekend I was introduced to a “little cookie” that garnished my dessert. The cookie was far greater than the canoli it accompanied. For the following week, I continued to order the dessert simply to get the cookies. So I asked the chef about them and he introduced me to Pierre Herme’s Macaron. Far from affordable, these macarons make the perfect treat. And when I have $100 burning a hole in my pocket, I’ll order a case of 24.

For almost a decade, the cupcake has been on the rise. But its peak is drawing near with the growing awareness of the macaron (NOT macarooooon! This has very little to do with a coconut crusted delight). While everyone was asleep, day-dreaming about how to re-invent a re-invented design on a cupcake, the French were already ahead of the curve with the petite, and fashionable snack. And if it does not crunch lightly, then melt in your mouth, its not a true macaron. It's just another little cookie.

The major key in a lasting trend is exclusivity. Never too much. The macaron being a true pastry, and extremely difficult to make (unlike the exhausted cupcake) will keep people coming back for it. ㋡

THE UPSETTER: Life & Music of Lee "Scratch" Perry

Today we can present to you the official theatrical trailer of “The Upsetter”, a documentary telling the fascinating story of Lee “Scratch” Perry. In the 50s he burst onto the scene with a new sound that would become to be known as Reggae. He gained international recognition as the mentor of the young Bob Marley, but more importantly as a music producer and solo artist. The documentary tells the vibrant story of Perry’s downfall and his uprising again, leading to a world tourin 2006. The Upsetter is based on an interview that he gave in Switzerland in 2006.

Directed by Ethan Higbee and Adam Bhala-Lough, the film will see its first screening March 25-31 in LA, with many more to follow.
