THE ORIGINAL DOM KENNEDY Mixtape

“Let the music find you.” – Dom Kennedy

✭✭
After giving this mixtape a couple listens, and reading Dom's interviews and insights into the direction for his music this time around, I'm not impressed. The push to find his own sound within the spectrum of West Coast rap didn't grab my attention.
When one makes music for a specific demographic, they are limiting their audience. They are setting a (Maximum Compacity) for the amount of listeners/fans/customers they will be allotted.
As a business person, why would you do that?.
As an ARTIST... why would you do that?. Art/Music is a binding force for the world... And at the end of the day, no one cares about “West coast shit!” or where you're from. We just wanna hear good music. I don't want to hear someone trying to sound different.

Comedian: Rasheed Thurmond

"Transcedent Man" Trailer

This is a documentary on the American futurist Ray Kurzweil, a multi-millionaire, inventor, and author of numerous books, has proposed a theory that in less than five decades the speed of change occurring in society will be too quick for humans to comprehend without directly merging our intelligence with machines. It sounds very 80s sci-fi-ish. The first portion of his beliefs, the accelerating speed of change, is undeniable… but to enhance ourselves to keep up with it…? I have to argue, we can’t keep up with something that is already beyond the majority.
The movie sounds interesting enough, but a little far fetched. I’ll check it out to check to see what else there is to learn from the subject.

Pharrell Williams for Harley-Davidson video

This is the story of the custom motorcycle Harley-Davidson and Rides Magazine made for Pharrell. HD and RM have teamed up for a campaign of ‘Brothers of the Bike,’ which is expanding Harley’s demographic and erasing the prejudice stigma.
Last June I made a trend prediction: vintage bikes and Dobermans. So far I’m one for two…

You can hang on to your Harley homie... I'll take a '64 Beemer R50/2. Thanks. ㋡

TEDDY BOY’s collection for Autumn 2011 was showcased at Project in Las Vegas last month. It’s a new twist on the classics. “The collection is top-heavy focusing on basics with a twist. Button-ups are all cotton with the top button moved from the center to the side hidden under the collar…” You’ll also find good use of popular fabrics including wax cottons, plaids, and tweed suits.
a new interpretation on the styles of the past with a modern feel.

The PERFECTO Jacket

Another hit from Schott NYC. For Fall 2011, their classic Perfecto Jacket will come in a check pattern Harris Tweed version. If you can rock the classiest motorcycle jacket anyone has ever seen, you’ll be way ahead of the game. The classic design is timeless, making it a necessity.
James Dean would've rocked it... ㋡

ROBERU Leather NEX-5 Holder

Despite being a popular choice in its domestic Japan and parts of South East Asia, the CMOS sensor Sony Alpha NEX-5 has still resided in the shadows of more popular yet less similarly-sized cameras from the competing Micro 4/3rds range. Leather brand Roberu ensure NEX-5 fans are properly protected with a new half case and strap. The holder comes in either brown, black or natural over at THINK SILLY.
I will need this by the end of the month. Camera comes first.

The PEEL App

Anyone who has spent too much time surfing through countless television channels knows that, despite the thousands of options, finding something worthwhile to watch can be a challenge. This is why fuseproject has developed an iPhone app called “Peel”. The application learns what programming interests you most and then tells you what’s on television, filtering out channels that don’t match your preferences. The Peel app also features a receptor with a sleek, modern design available in three different fruit-shaped forms (apple, pear or orange) that relays your iPhone signal to your television, allowing you to use the phone as a remote for easy channel surfing.

The SOLOWHEEL

For the “lazy than-a-mug” and the walking impaired, I present to you a $1500, stripped-down SEGWAY, INVENTIST’s new SOLOWHEEL is geared for the mobile urbanite. The "self-balancing electric unicycle" operates through gyroscopic technology, with a 1000-watt rechargeable lithium-ion battery powers. On a full charge (which takes about 45 minutes), the Solowheel lasts two hours—but the battery actually recaptures energy when going downhill.

Beauty in Damaged Places

Learning first hand the power of art in resolving conflicts, French street artist known simply as  JR embarked on an unlikely journey of documenting the “faces” in these conflicts and creating large scale illegal exhibitions. Almost at an instant, the often-silly portraits peel back the threatening aura and get people to see the true “enemies” are really the prejudicial thoughts within themselves. In winning the 2011 TED Prize, JR announced on his most ambitious plan yet, a global participatory project where everyone around the globe can contribute in photo form and the resulting art can be exhibit anywhere. By doing so, JR hopes more walls of preconceive notions, of century-old conflicts, of often-resolvable differences can be tear down, completely. Join JR’s mission at INSIDE OUT PROJECT.

BAND OF OUTSIDERS 2011 FALL/WINTER SHOW

Following a view of the collection last month, Band of Outsiders gives us a look into the actual runway show it held back in February. Taking on a 70s-era Californian rock climber’s aesthetic, the collection itself found inspiration from the book The Stonemasters, a story revolving around a small band of young rock climbers, decked out in bandanas, shades and cutoffs, who came together and blew open the conventions of climbing.
One of the more imaginative runways shows, with an amazing collection.
Enjoy!

Touch Screen Everything ☞ VENDING MACHINE ☜

The digital vending machine features a 47-inch touchscreen display with a camera mounted at its top. Sensory data is interpreted by an internal processor to recognize the sex and estimate the age of an individual who approaches the device, displaying recommendations based on this data. selecting a product brings up additional information about it prior to purchase.
Innovative for its use of targeted marketing through the visual analysis, “acure” makes use of its intelligent marketing' system even when not in use by a customer, to display advertising imagery appropriate to the time of day, temperature, and season. For example, the product showcased shown on a cold morning might be a hot coffee,
while on a sunny summer day, a glass of ice water or a soda with lime.

now about six months into the projected installation plan, the company has calculated that their machines make approximately three times the number of sales of other vending machines.

one of the great advantages to a digital machine is that it is updatable in realtime. replacing stock is a precise process, as the machine relays its needs to its central server, which dispatches deliveries once a day, and any sold out products are not included in the display in the meantime. because multiple 'acure' machines can be centrally controlled, they can be used in emergency situations to provide free beverages.

'acure' is also suica-compatible, referring to the ability of metro system riders to use their transit system passes as debit cards.

the first machine was installed in shinagawa station last august, and the company's plans to install
approximately 500 machines by march 2012 are already underway throughout tokyo.
