Beauty in Damaged Places

Learning first hand the power of art in resolving conflicts, French street artist known simply as  JR embarked on an unlikely journey of documenting the “faces” in these conflicts and creating large scale illegal exhibitions. Almost at an instant, the often-silly portraits peel back the threatening aura and get people to see the true “enemies” are really the prejudicial thoughts within themselves. In winning the 2011 TED Prize, JR announced on his most ambitious plan yet, a global participatory project where everyone around the globe can contribute in photo form and the resulting art can be exhibit anywhere. By doing so, JR hopes more walls of preconceive notions, of century-old conflicts, of often-resolvable differences can be tear down, completely. Join JR’s mission at INSIDE OUT PROJECT.
